Message from the Prime Minister of Royal Government of Bhutan

On behalf of the people and the Royal Government of Bhutan, it gives me great pleasure to extend our warm felicitations and Tashi Delek to you and your colleagues on the happy and auspicious occasion of the Twenty-first Anniversary of the signing of the SAARC Charter.

As a founding member, Bhutan attaches high importance to the purposes and principles of the SAARC Charter. Indeed, since its establishment in 1985, it is a matter of great satisfaction to note that the SAARC process has grown from strength to strength based on our shared values, beliefs and aspirations. The regional will to cooperate in numerous important areas under the framework of SAARC has manifested itself in many landmark developments. This has served to provide greater impetus and vitality to the SAARC process.

As we commemorate the twenty-first anniversary of our Association, it is fitting occasion to celebrate the significant achievements made by SAARC in the economic, social and cultural fields. It is also an occasion to pay tribute to the conviction and platform to foster regional cooperation in many important areas for the well being of the people of South Asia. To observe this important event in Bhutan, a butter lamp lighting ceremony is being organized at the Tashichhodzong on 8th December in which I will participate along with some of my cabinet colleagues, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and international organizations and SAARC Focal Points.

I wish to take this opportunity to reaffirm the commitment and support of the Royal Government to the SAARC process. I would also like to commend you and your able team in providing the necessary support as we endeavour to make regional cooperation under more meaningful and productive for the benefit of our peoples.

With the assurance of my highest consideration and warmest regards.
